OFFshore Hub Director Professor David White elected a Fellow of RINA

June 18, 2017

OFFshore Hub Director Professor David White has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). RINA is an internationally renowned professional institution whose members are involved at all levels in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of marine vessels and structures. Members of RINA are widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organisations in over ninety countries.

In his role as the Shell Professor of Offshore Engineering, David has developed new capabilities in UWA for marine vessel research. He recruited floating structure specialists Dr Hugh Wolgamot and Dr Wenhua Zhao in 2013, and the success of this team led in 2016 to the formation of the ARC Research Hub for Offshore Floating Facilities – the OFFshore Hub – with enlarged cross-industry support.

Within the OFFshore Hub program, UWA and its industry partners are now conducting research across many aspects of the design and operation of floating facilities, from anchoring systems to metocean forecasting. Our work is being deployed by the hub industry partners, Woodside, Shell, Lloyds Register and Bureau Veritas to support floating facilities in Australia and globally. David’s election as a Fellow of RINA reflects the achievements of this growing team.
